Candidate for State House District 99.
Advocate. Leader. Mother.
Meet Michelle
I’m Michelle Kang and I’m a proud first-generation Korean-American immigrant who came to the States in 1992. I decided to move to Georgia to build a better life for myself and my future family. I’ve had the privilege of calling Georgia home for over 30 years. The longer I’ve lived in our great state, the more invested I am in seeing Georgia thrive. I am running for office to make Georgia the best place to live, work, and raise a family and improve the quality of life for all Georgians.
I am running for office to represent all of my neighbors regardless of their income, race, religion, or the language they speak at home.
Priorities
-
By expanding the Georgia Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), supporting Childcare Tax Credits, pushing for targeted income tax reductions for families earning less than $100,000 and ending tax giveaways to the ultra-wealthy and big corporations.
-
Because Georgia has 656,000 children aged 6 weeks to 5 years, that’s nearly 6% of our population. Their parents, mostly Millennials and Gen Z, are the backbone of our economy, but too many working families can’t afford childcare— a basic need that’s become a burden (childcare centers averaging $10,000+ per year, per child).
-
Because over a million Georgia renters are struggling to keep up. With more than half spending over 30% of their income on housing, it’s time we take action to ease the burden and make sure working families can afford to stay in their homes.
-
Because I know firsthand, as a former small business owner, the hurdles entrepreneurs face. I’ll fight to expand access to capital (create and fund Georgia Small Business Loan Guarantee Program), to streamline state licensing and permit processes, and to prioritize state contracts for Georgia-based small businesses, not just big out-of-state vendors.
-
Because every child deserves a fair shot. I’ll champion this by fully funding Georgia’s Quality Basic Education (QBE) formula, which hasn’t kept up with real classroom needs, by increasing funding for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and classroom aides, by pushing for smaller class sizes, by raising teacher pay to reflect their vital role, not just to retain them, but respect them, and by investing in mental health support and professional development.
-
Because every Georgian deserves to live with dignity and access to care. I’ll fight to expand Medicaid and cover 400,000 more people, to keep rural hospitals open and relieve our ERs. I’ll invest in mental health services in schools and communities, fund crisis teams, and make it easier for providers to serve where they’re needed most. I’ll grow our health workforce with fair pay, loan forgiveness, and rural incentives. And I’ll fight for health equity — because your zip code, gender, or immigration status should never decide your quality of care.
